Oncology Massage Performed this week that gave client relief from Tension

This week’s oncology massage session provided a client with significant and much-needed tension relief as they continue healing after chemotherapy and radiation treatments here in Henrico County, Richmond, Virginia. Recently, the client began working with a personal trainer to rebuild strength, improve mobility, and integrate weight training into their post-cancer wellness routine. During the session, the client reported a “tight band” sensation around the arm and ribcage caused by scar tissue and a rebound fascial effect. Through gentle, oncology-informed techniques, I was able to address fascial restrictions, begin softening scar tissue near the biopsy site, and support their progress as they reintroduce structured movement and exercise into their recovery journey.

To further reduce discomfort, I incorporated light lymphatic drainage to help alleviate fluid buildup often associated with post-surgical and post-treatment changes. By the end of the massage, the client noticed a remarkable reduction in the tight band sensation, along with improved shoulder alignment and a more natural resting position of the arm. They felt it was easier to maintain normal posture without the arm pulling into a rounded, forward position. This session not only supported physical comfort but also contributed to their overall healing, mobility, and confidence as they continue rebuilding strength after cancer treatment.
